Name: EdVenture Workshops for Volunteers - Make it Sew
Description: EdVenture and Girl Scouts of South Carolina Mountains to Midlands are partnering to offer volunteers more learning enrichment opportunities. These workshops will introduce you to the idea of “making” and the Maker Movement. Participants will learn all about informal education and how to facilitate learning through open discussion and sharing ideas. One of the key elements of these courses is learning how to create an open, safe, and comfortable environment that will allow girls to be innovative and not afraid to make mistakes. Participants in these sessions will discuss, explore, create, and reflect on the different ideas and activities we do during the day. Participants will also be able to take their creations home with them in order to facilitate similar activities, along with all of the principles of the Reggio method and Maker Movement.

Make it Sew: This 2 hour professional development workshop introduces different art techniques and focuses on HOW to give students directions while also allowing them enough freedom to be creative. The emphasis is on How to facilitate students’ learning and discussion without short circuiting their thought process. Minimum? 12 or based on facilitator’s discretion How long will it last? 2 hours Fee? GSSC – MM is underwriting a portion of the cost. Volunteer portion of the fee is $7.50.
