Healthy Cooking and Garden to Table- Session A

Each session will include a hands-on activity in the kitchen, as well as a physical activity and stress reduction session. In the kitchen, all participants will have the opportunity to actively participate in preparing and cooking a meal to share with the whole group. Kitchen skills taught will include recipe reading, recipe math, knife skills, kitchen safety and food safety. Healthy living lessons will include basic nutrition, label reading activities, and ReThink Your Drink activities. Recipes and lessons will be tailored for each age group. Girls will prepare their own treats in a cookie baking activity. Garden to Table activities will include a visit to Sustainable Carolina’s garden and compost facilities, and gardening activities in the Discovery Edible Garden. These activities may also include a grocery store tour and a lesson about our country’s food system to complete the garden to store to table triangle. Each session will include a full lunch prepared by the “Girl Scout chefs” and will include a take home booklet of recipes, activities, lessons and, tips sheets.
